Halitosis, known as bad breath, is a problem that affect a lot of people at any time without notice. Estimated 50% of people have PERSISTENT bad breath and most people have short periods of bad breath.

Thecauses of bad breath are a variety of things including gum disease, poorly fitted dental appliances, yeast infection, dental caries, dry mouth, various medications, chronic sinus infections, diabetes, acid reflux and kidney problems.

Exams and tests are some ways that you can detect bad breath odor. A complete dental exam should be taken. Several questions will be ask to help the dentist to diagnose the problem. We will do a periodontal exam to make sure that you don’t have gum disease. A Halometer measures volatile sulfur compounds in the breath and may be used. A home remedy is: lick the inside of your wrist and wait for the saliva to dry. If the area you licked smells unpleasant, it is likely that your breath does too.
