The most common sites for oral piercing are the lips and tongue. Federal
University of Minas Gerais in Brazil studied 60 patients with tongue piercing
and a control group of 120 patients. Those with oral piercing had a habit
of biting the piercing 50% of the time and 75% had a habit of rattling
the piercing. The most important information from this was 37% of piercing
group had tooth fractures and 18% recession on the lower gum area behind
the back teeth. Therefore, I am telling you if you have a oral piercing
you will eventually be in my chair for treatment!
